Cuando usted y yo conocemos las emociones y los sentimientos en el corazón de Dios, es mejor que le obedezcamos. Podemos caminar obedientemente en su Palabra y vivir radicalmente para él, porque su amor nos sostiene. Somos capaces de obedecer a Dios a largo plazo cuando estamos unidos a su poder en vez de nuestra propia debilidad. Podemos vivir con alegría, porque estamos viviendo en un nuevo reino. Salmo 16:11 dice: “En tu presencia hay plenitud de gozo”
Entré en el campo misionero a una edad temprana. La vida misionera está llena de estaciones de penuria y resistencia. Mi primera gran lección vino cuando yo vivía en un barco misionero con gente de todo el mundo. El nombre de la nave era Doulos, que significa “Siervo” en griego. Todos estabamos motivados para ser como Jesús, quien vino no para ser servido, sino para servir.
Mi primer trabajo en el barco fue servir comida a más de trescientas personas de más de cuarenta países diferentes. Eso no fue tan difícil, hasta que nos pusimos al mar. Nuestro primer viaje importante fue navegar a través del Océano Atlántico, un viaje de dos semanas que yo secretamente esperaba con mucho miedo y temor. Después de todo, yo no era marinera. ¡Ni siquiera sabía nadar! ¿Cómo iba a servir la comida durante un viaje duro? Y ellos predijeron mal tiempo, ya que era temporada de huracanes.
Efectivamente, el viaje se tornó tempestuoso.
Recuerdo que una de mis compañeros de trabajo en el comedor salió de la cocina con una bandeja cargada con trozos de mantequilla en pequeños platos. De repente el barco se tambaleó hacia delante, y ella perdió completamente el equilibrio. La mantequilla voló por todas partes! Estaba por todos lados, incluso sobre mi compañera de trabajo, en el suelo, y en las mesas. Otro día, yo estaba sirviendo la sopa a todas las mesas de mi fila. Pensé que lo estaba haciendo bastante bien hasta que le serví a un chico alto y desgarbado, que entonces se inclinó y vació su estómago justo en su copa. Me volví en la otra dirección y salí de allí rápido! Afortunadamente ambos incidentes más tarde se convirtieron en historias de humor, sólo algunas de nuestras muchas experiencias en el mar.
Lo que me sostuvo en esas primeras experiencias de vida misionera y a lo largo de mi carrera misionera era estar viendo los latidos del corazón de Dios para el mundo. Fue una comprensión personal de su corazón y de su amor por mí para que me permitió ir a través de las experiencias de día a día en la vida del barco. Tuve la oportunidad de enfocarme en Dios y en su amor en aquellos momentos.
Sin entender el amor de Dios, es imposible que le sirvamos con éxito durante mucho tiempo en el extranjero. Tarde o temprano, las debilidades en nuestras vidas y la pesadez de las demandas del ministerio acaban con nosotros. Cuando buscamos el corazón de Dios, todo se vuelve más fácil, porque estamos caminando con y enfocados en Dios. Empezamos a comprender Su amor abrumador para nosotros personalmente y el profundo placer que Él tiene en nuestra comunión con él. Esto nos motiva a cambiar. Nuestras acciones y estilos de vida, se hacen cada vez más semejantes a Cristo porque nos vemos a nosotros mismos como Dios nos ve, y esto impacta todo lo que decimos y hacemos. Vemos la belleza de Dios, y entonces nos vemos a nosotros mismos a través de sus ojos. Esto nos permite decir no al pecado y crecer en santidad.
Con el tiempo la verdad sobre Dios y cómo Él ama al mundo entero se mueve en nuestros corazones. Entonces respondemos a Dios desde nuestros corazones. Experimentamos el amor de Dios en una medida más profunda. Pero debemos darnos cuenta que Satanás siempre atacará nuestra relación con Cristo. Él sabe que esta es la clave de toda vida fructífera y de la victoria espiritual. Cuando conocemos el amor de Dios en un nivel profundo, podemos conquistar cualquier dificultad, aún los viajes por mar. Podemos enfrentar cualquier prueba porque podemos confiar en nuestro Padre que sabe qué es lo mejor para nosotros. Él nos llevará a través de la dificultad. Él nos conoce íntimamente. Nosotros somos sus hijos amados.
