Biblical Principles For A Lighthouse Lifestyle

12342810_1071086426287797_4528222219828104224_n

“A Lighthouse is a family, an individual, business, or private group who commit to pray regularly by name for their neighbors and to care for them by developing genuine friendship that can lead to sharing the Gospel.”

Characteristics of a Lighthouse Lifestyle

  1. It focuses on those who exhibit a Christ-less life – This is opposed to the unconscious but obvious obsession Christians have of associating with only other Christians.
  2. It manifests the “local” church in a community – It does this by diminishing all denominational divisions except for the clear basics of knowing God through Christ. When believers in a geographic locality join together to pray and love, God’s Spirit works (Psalm 133).
  3. It is evangelism through the power of prayer – Answers to prayer stimulate faith. John Bunyan said, “You can do more than pray only after you have prayed.”
  4. It transforms entire communities – It even looks beyond filling the pews of one local church to the reaching of an entire city by a strategic, faith-filled, united witness.
  5. It listens to God for people’s needs and then becomes the instrument to meet those needs – Prayer is communion with God. We speak and listen, and then do. God uses us to be the answers to our prayers for others in our communities.

Biblical Principles for a Lighthouse Lifestyle

  1. Your community is your “mission field” – If God is great enough to put innumerable stars in the heavens and call them each by name, is He not also capable of determining the exact places where each man should live?
“From one man He made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out to Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us” (Acts 17:26-27).
  2. Every Christian is a “missionary” – The perception that only full-time, paid professionals are ministers is unbiblical. A missionary is a special messenger from God. That is what we all are. Each believer in Christ has the Holy Spirit to transmit the message (Matthew 28:18-19, I Peter 2:5).
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
  3. The “greater works” Jesus talked about were meant to bring people to faith (John 14:6-14) – Prayer in Jesus name and reaping miracles results in birthing faith. Ed Silvoso says, “Acts of love and power bring people to faith” (See Matthew 5:16, John 13; 14:6-14, James 2). Each year millions of people encounter our churches, television and radio programs, and Christmas events, and still ask “Show us God.” Jesus’ response to Phillip’s similar request was:
“Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves”
    (John 14:11).
  4. Love for the lost produces revival – When we share our faith, it becomes more real to us. Carlos Annacondia, a minister of the Argentine revival, confirms this by saying: “Love for the lost produces revival. When love ceases, revival does too. He who has a passion for souls lives in an ongoing revival.”
“I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ”
    (Philemon 6).

The Power of God

“For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel – not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God”
(1 Corinthians 1:17-18).

The noun “dunamis” means “ability, might, of that which manifests God’s power, of mighty works, mighty deeds, and miracles”. Everything you do in demonstrating God’s light that touches the life of another is powerful and it comes from God. It’s his power flowing through you. It’s His ability reaching out to the unsaved and not your own. God wants to use you as a fragrance of his power in every act you do towards the lost. The noun also is “exousia” which denotes “freedom of action, right to act, unrestricted, authority delegated”. The body of Christ has been restricted too long. We have a right to act and share Christ with others. God has endowed upon us delegated authority and unrestricted freedom to speak his words of life about Jesus freely. We must now realize that we are ambassadors of Christ (II Cor. 5:18-20).

The verb “exousiazo” means “to exercise authority, have authority, of the power of rulers, to be brought under the power of a thing”. We as believers must learn to exercise this authority. It is ours to use fully for God’s glory. The vines expository dictionary says that it is “committed to those who on becoming believers, were empowered by the spirit of God, are indwelt by Him, and will exercise it hereafter for God’s glory”. We are empowered by the spirit of God for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. The word evangelism or evangelist is “evangelizo” and means “a messenger of good, to proclaim glad tidings and good news, gospel”. It denotes a preacher of the Gospel. (Definitions from Vines Expository Dictionary)

Principles Of Prayer For A Lighthouse Lifestyle

“Prayer is the match that lights the fuse to release the explosive power of the Holy Spirit in the affairs of men.”

  1. Prayer and thanksgiving and praise – Psalm 100:4
  • Understand the mighty power of praise and worship. Begin with praise, worship, or a song as you start your Lighthouse of Prayer meeting or before you go prayerwalking.
  • Thank God for what He is going to do in your neighborhood.
  • Praise God for your partnership with Him. You are His ambassador in your neighborhood and the link between your neighbors and heaven. Know that you are seated in the heavenly places with Christ (Ephesians 2:6)
  1. Prayer and spiritual warfare – Ephesians 6:10-18
  • Realize that Satan will oppose you. Refuse to give him a foothold, and know your authority in Christ (Matthew 28:18-20). It is good to read Scripture to encourage your faith as you start your meeting.
  • Pray for the marriages, families, and relationships of those in your Lighthouse of Prayer. Most Bible passages that deal with spiritual warfare are set in the context of broken relationships.
  • Resist Satan persistently. Bring every thought captive to Christ (II Corinthians 10:3-5).
  1. Prayer and forgiveness – Matthew 6:12-15
  • Know that the greatest way that the enemy will oppose you is by tempting you not to forgive.
  • Blessing those who hurt you voids the jurisdiction the devil uses to have authority over you. Walk in peace and bless your enemies.
  • Confess and repent of all known sin, and choose to forgive. You want the
channels to be open and unhindered between you and God (Psalm 24:3-5).
  1. Prayer and unity – John 17:21
  • Pray for unity in the body of Christ. The eyes of unbelievers are opened as we walk in unity and love. A city cannot be reached for Christ and walk in revival unless the body of Christ comes together in unity.
  • Welcome those of different denominations into your Lighthouse of Prayer. Delight in God’s diversity and creativity. Lay down your differences.
  • Pray for the different cultures and types of people in your neighborhood.
  1. Prayer and faith – Hebrews 11:6
  • Ask God for greater faith for you and your Christian neighbors to believe Him to change the climate of your neighborhood. Pray with a big vision, and ask Him to open your eyes to see as He sees.
  • Pray for miracles in your neighborhood (John 14:12-14).
  • Pray God’s bless over your neighborhood claiming the promises of Scripture.
  1. Prayer and the lost – Matthew 9:35-38
  • Begin by finding two or more Christians in your neighborhood who will pray together for your neighborhood (Mt. 18:20). God will use your faithfulness as a small prayer group to establish a model so others whose hearts God is preparing can gradually be brought in.
  • Develop a prayer list of your neighborhoods. Start by praying by name for those around you by using the BLESS method. Journal answers to prayer and insights that God gives you. Add names and information.
  • Pray for compassion for the lost and opportunities to bless your neighbors. As you begin to bless your neighbors, you begin to love them.
  1. Prayer and action – James 2:22-25
  • Pray for opportunities to fellowship with your neighbors. God will show you how to reach out through warm-hearted acts of kindness.
  • Pray for the felt needs of your neighbors in public and their salvation in private. As people experience God’s love and power through answered prayer for their felt needs, they desire to know Him.
  • Pray for boldness to share the Gospel in God’s timing. Ask God to open ways for you to share your faith with those around you in loving, non-threatening ways.

8. Pray for your Lighthouse of Prayer using the acrostic “NEIGHBOR”.

N – Nurture the heavenly vision,
E – Evaluate your neighborhood,
I – Intercede for your neighborhood,
G – Gather others to pray,
H – Have compassion for your neighbors,
B – Build relationships,
O – Open your heart and your home,
R – Rejoice with God.

Prayerwalking

12391910_1073332022729904_3158871813825984938_n“Praying on Site with Insight”

“I will give you every place where you set your foot.” Joshua 1:3

If every Christian began to prayerwalk their neighborhood or workplace, we would begin to see America and the nations transformed. Prayerwalking is part of the Lighthouse lifestyle. It is praying on site (where you step your foot) with insight (with God’s heavenly vision and understanding). Prayerwalking is a wonderful way to bring heaven’s power right into our everyday situation as we walk. I recommend it highly for it brings the influence of heaven to earth, impacting the very territory where we walk. If we all went prayerwalking, it would make a difference in our neighborhoods. We encourage you to make a commitment to go prayerwalking every week. God will answer your prayers and change will begin to come into your neighborhood. Crime will decrease rapidly if each one of us does our part. You and I have the authority in prayer to stretch forth God’s influence and power over our cities and nations.

Why Prayerwalk?

Prayerwalking is a wonderful way to reach your area (your neighborhood, city, workplace) with the power and authority of God. It bathes the atmosphere with the influence of God, it breaks the power of evil, and enables the Holy Spirit to move freely. It helps you to overcome the fear of reaching out to the lost and sensitizes your heart to the people around you and to situations with the heart of Jesus. Prayerwalking also creates divine opportunities to pray for people on the spot. People don’t realize it but they are looking for the atmosphere of heaven. They have a hunger that cannot be satisfied with what earth offers. They need God, and prayerwalking can prepare them to meet God in a personal way. Prayerwalking will give you insight as to the needs of your city and neighborhood, it will build your faith as to what God can do, and it will expand your vision. Prayerwalking empowers ordinary life and puts us in tune with God’s heart.

Guidelines as you Prayerwalk

  • Simply walk with Jesus – You are stepping in His land over which He has complete authority and great compassion. So walk where He walks, and pray His prayers.
  • Be patient – Don’t give up. Prayerwalking needs persistence and although it is a quiet affair, it brings great rewards.
  • Be ready for battle – You are considered spiritually trespassing by established evil powers. The enemy will do all that he can to stop you.
  • Be prepared, and give your whole self to the task.
  • Prepare your heart – Make sure that you have confessed all known sin, and come before God in gratitude and with thanksgiving.
  • Gather your mind – Fix your attention on the purposes and thoughts of God at the beginning. Leave your burdens with God so that you will not be distracted during your prayerwalk.
  • Seek God for guidance – Be still before Him for a short time, and ask Him to direct your steps and prayers.
  • Visualize the area as God sees it – Ask Him to help you see your neighborhood with His eyes.
  • Pray with the Word of God and the Spirit of God – When you find it hard to pray, pray Scripture. You pray the will of God as you pray the Word of God over your area. The Holy Spirit will also enable you to pray on-target prayers.
  • Pray out loud and with others sometimes – Your faith grows as you verbalize your prayers. Your prayers multiply as you learn to agree in your requests and as you pray conversationally with others. Together you can ask God to break any strongholds, and pray for healing, comfort, and salvation.
  • Welcome Jesus into your neighborhood – Be friendly, greet people while walking, and offer to pray for their needs. Be open to God’s divine opportunities.
  • Seek a balance in your prayers – As you walk, combine worship, intercession, warfare, and welcome. Make sure you keep your focus on God more than the devil and his works. Welcome God into your neighborhood.
  • Proclaim the promises and prayer of the Bible over your neighborhood – Realize the power of the Word and the name of Jesus when you pray it out loud. Proclaim Jesus as Lord over the homes, people, and situations you encounter. Ask for God’s blessings and presence on each home.
  • Thank God for all that He is doing – Look at your neighborhood, and list specific blessings such as honest policemen, safe schools, kind teachers, strong churches, etc. Thank God for what He is going to do.
  • Pray God’s purposes and destiny for your neighborhood – Pray for each person, family, and city. Pray that God’s purposes might be fulfilled and that many would be saved and sent out as workers in His great harvest
.
  • Be creative – Pray creative prayers such as the fruit of the Spirit or the Lord’s Prayer over your neighborhood.
  • Give thanks over what God did through your prayerwalk – Rejoice, evaluate, and record insights for the next time you go prayerwalking. Tell others of your experiences and blessings.
  • Follow-up contacts – Ask yourself what ministries are necessary as a result of your prayerwalk such as a youth and children’s ministry or a ladies Bible study.

Battles to Face

There are many battles to face when you decide to start a Lighthouse of Prayer in your neighborhood or workplace. Satan vigorously opposes the prayer ministries. He especially hates it when we concentrate on praying for the lost and reaching out to them. Many cultures tend to be too busy and overly individualistic, and neighbors are often neglected. Many Christians do not want to pray for their neighbors, and often we just don’t take the time to do this important ministry. But this must change because the harvest is ripe, and God wants each one of us to be involved.

A Prayer

Lord, you were a shining light to the generation of people who lived two thousand years ago. They flocked to you because you loved them enough to be with them and to show them the true way to the Father. You have commissioned us to shine with that same love and message, yet we have not.

Even in light of the fact that you have given so much to us and have enriched our lives in every way, we have neglected to give proper attention to the function that was highest on your list, “to seek and to save the lost”. We confess, Lord, that we have been too busy with life. We have loved our lives in this world to the exclusion of the task for which you keep us in the world. Our concern has not been great enough. Our love has not been hot enough. Our vision of eternity has not been clear enough. We have not believed, we have been cowards, we have turned away busying ourselves with temporal pursuits while our neighbors pass, one by one, into a living and dying hell. We haven’t cared enough to intentionally love and pray for them.

Lord, we confess what we are, jars of clay. But you are the potter. We ask that you remold our hearts after your own heart. Give us a love that will lead the way, a passion hot as fire, and a faith that no disappointment will tire. Give us love for our neighbors and a life of power that will convince them of eternity and the claims of Jesus Christ.

We pray also for our city. Forgive us as a church in the city for pampering the institution of the church and not mobilizing her into the streets. Give our leaders your wisdom. Give your body unity. Make her strong against the enemy to destroy spiritual strongholds. May we see revival. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bringing The Touch Of Jesus Through Prayer

946444_1077690778960695_8044411060511755856_n“That a marvelous thing it is that Christ uses us, His body, to introduce His power to heal into the fabric of everyday life. Whether in a phone call, a chance meeting on the street, in our homes and work places, or within the church walls, bringing the touch of Jesus to others, one prayer at a time, is a profound privilege and wondrous joy for every believer.”

Each of us needs the personal touch of Jesus that we receive from one another through prayer. Personal prayer is such a powerful way to touch the lives of those who do not know Christ. A single prayer prayed with the anointing and direction of the Holy Spirit can actually change the course of someone’s lives. It can show an unbeliever that Jesus is alive and cares. Therefore, we always need to be ready to pray for others at a moments notice.

In traveling to different nations and in meeting all kinds of people, I have experienced the joy and power in praying for people. I am convinced that it is a simple, easy-to-do ministry that we can easily forget or neglect, but has a great impact in the lives of others and carries a great eternal reward. Over and over again, I see God impacting the lives of individuals as a result of the personal touch of Jesus that comes through prayer. Everything changes!

Jesus’ power brings hope and life to those who do not know Him.

The touch of Jesus through prayer has no limitations. Once my husband and I were walking in France when a man collapsed on the ground nearby. His granddaughter on her bike was crying, people begin to gather around, and he was helpless with his face in the dirt and hardly moving. Not knowing the language, we tried to find out what had happened but with no success. We finally bent down, put our hand on his body and began to pray. After a few minutes, he sat up. An ambulance soon came, he was able to talk, and they took him away in a wheelchair. I believe that our simple prayer made a difference at that moment.

Do we realize the power of God that extends to others as we bring the touch of Jesus into the lives of individuals through prayer?

Personal prayer is a key in life both in the area of giving and receiving it. There are times when we feel the attack of the enemy or are going through a low time, where personal prayer is like a breath of fresh air for a weary soul. It can lead us in a new direction, it can encourage our hearts, and it can change the wrong ways we are thinking about our life circumstances. We need people to pray for us. We also need to be willing to let the Lord use us in our day-to-day encounters with people.

There is a man named Gary on the ship we were visiting who is praying for the 300 people on board on a regular basis. He has a list of all their names, he asks various ones for prayer requests, and sometimes he tells them he is praying and finds out how they are doing. He is bringing the touch of Jesus to others in a hidden, unseen dimension that will make a huge difference. Personal prayer ministry is extremely rewarding. When we pray for the lost, they see that God is real for them personally.

“There is great joy in knowing that you have made a difference in someone’s life – that you prayed a prayer that brought Jesus’ life and power into the situation.” Jan Niel

How to Bring the Touch of Jesus Through Prayer

“Personal prayer ministry is one person ushering another
into God’s presence through prayer.”
Terry Teykl

  • Be aware of the needy world around you – Enter each day with a desire to minister the life of Jesus to others in some way. Pray and ask the Lord, “Who can I minister to today?” “Make me aware of the needs of others, and show me who you want me to pray for. Lead me to a lost person who is seeking for truth.”
  • Expect God to lead you because He will open doors of opportunity – Have an expectant heart, and believe that God wants to use you every day in some way to bless others with the touch of Jesus. Walk through the day with an open heart and a willingness to serve others through prayer, and the Holy Spirit will guide and give you opportunities.
  • Ask God for guidance and learn to listen and wait – God will guide you in prayer that will touch deeply into the spirit of others. Learning to wait before praying has helped me so much in praying the prayers God desired rather than ones I thought were important.
“When we pray for others, we need to wait upon God for guidance. We can’t automatically claim God’s power is present to heal and plow through someone’s pain with assurance our Father may not be giving. Often when we listen to the Holy Spirit, He will lead us to pray along a completely different track.”
  • Go forth in faith, and ask individuals if you can pray for them –  We train others in prayer evangelism and encourage people to pray for the felt needs of their neighbors. Many are afraid, because they think that lost people don’t want prayer. Actually the opposite is true. People in the world are more willing for us to pray for them than we realize. We must be courageous and ask if there is anything we can pray for. Try it, and I believe you will be surprised at the response.
“Jesus sees our willingness to bring people to Him as an act of faith. He loves to reward the small seed of faith that we demonstrate when we choose to pray for someone else.”
  • Realize that spiritual needs are the most important – Many times physical and emotional problems are connected to the spiritual realm so be sure to pray through possible areas of sin and any strategies of the devil. Often someone comes to me with a surface problem, and I find a spiritual stronghold at the core. When we pray about the spiritual stronghold and bring it before the cross, we find that the surface problem takes care of itself.
  • If God reveals a course of action, encourage the person to follow through with it“Sometimes as we listen and wait on the Lord, he will reveal a course of action for the person we’re praying for. It may be confession and renunciation of sin, restitution toward others, affirmation of a biblical truth, or some other act of obedience. Here we need to take a step back and encourage that person to follow the Lord to complete the healing He desires.”
  • Stop when you are done – Sometimes we try to help the Holy Spirit, but He may want the person to step out on their own. We need to know when we are finished.
“We must allow them to take the action Jesus has laid out for them, lest they lose the ground they have gained.”
  • Keep your motives pure, making sure God gets the glory – Personal prayer ministry changes lives. We want God to be glorified. Let us continually give God praise and thanksgiving after we have ministered in prayer to others, knowing that it was all His work and we were His privileged vessels.
“Pride can’t fit in a heart that’s full of praise and wonder at the God who answers prayer.”

“As we learn to minister like Jesus, we will listen more and talk less, wait longer, and make fewer proclamations. When we can see what the Father is up to, we find a new authority and power in personal prayer ministry.” Unnamed quotes by Tricia Rhodes

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:14-16).

Welcome to the Lighthouse Lifestyle E-course. The goal of this e-course is to help you to be fruitful in your neighborhood, workplace or school. God is preparing each of us for the end-times harvest. We have a estiny to reach for Christ the place where we live and work. God’s desire is that we are fruitful Christians. Loving others will lead to natural expressions of sharing the Gospel. So many of us want to share more about the wonderful life we have in Christ with others we see every day but not in an artificial or contrived way.

This class is designed to give you a practical breakthrough in reaching out. The only requirement is that you desire to love and reach people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The harvest is ripe. It’s time to let our light shine.

What is the desired outcome of this course?

  • That each person would have an overflow of confidence in God’s enabling to make His word known.
  • That each person would be able to point to 6-10 relationships which are progressively moving toward understanding the Gospel.

  • That the principles presented would be adopted as a permanent lifestyle and passed on to others.

This course is designed to be practical, impartational and creative. There will be practical training in how to pray, care and share Christ with your neighbors, co-workers or schoolmates. We will be teaching about creative ways to care for the lost, pray for unbelievers and prayerwalk your neighborhood. God wants to motivate us to reach out in love to those around us. Part of this e-course is impartational. We believe that God wants to impart to you an evangelistic and caring spirit. This class is designed to release you with evangelistic boldness along with a Christ-like love that brings kingdom results. Our prayer is that you will take hold of the opportunities God brings your way and live each day with a new expectancy. Lighthouses of Prayer

”I believe without question that we are facing the greatest spiritual harvest the world has ever known. The Lighthouse Movement is incredibly strategic for helping reach out to nonbelievers and disciple the tens of millions who are turning to Christ.” Bill Bright

God is preparing us for harvest. The Lighthouse of Prayer ministry is an exciting way to personally love those who do not know Christ. It is essential that we see every area in our cities covered in prayer evangelism. The Lighthouse of Prayer strategy is natural and motivating, it brings forth fruit in neighborhoods and opens the way of salvation to your co-workers and neighbors. This strategy releases the entire body of Christ into their calling. Every believer has a destiny to reach for Christ the very place where they live and work.

It is not necessary to be an evangelist. You simply must love people. The Lighthouse of Prayer strategy is easy and effective. It is simply praying for, caring for, and sharing Christ with your neighbors. Listed below are various teachings on Lighthouses of Prayer to help you in starting your own lighthouse. A Lighthouse of Prayer Training Kit can be purchased for $20 plus shipping and handling through Elijah Company, Inc.
